Our History

Kawi Industries is registered as a limited company (No. PVT-RXU2ELE7) under the laws of Kenya (Incorporated under the Companies Act, 2015). The company headquarter is located in Butula, Busia (Kenya) with a briquettes plant at Kiserian Annex, Magadi Road, Kajiado North District, Kiserian.

Kawi Industries was initially registered as a business (sole proprietor) in April 2019 and later incorporated in August 2023. Since inception, Kawi had been committed to providing fuel briquettes to boarding schools, colleges, cafes, restaurants, hotels, factories, and households in the Nairobi metropolitan area, Kajiado and Kiambu Counties (Kenya). In its first year, Kawi engaged 3 employees but has since expanded its operations to optimally engage a team of 9 employees and various contractors.

In addition to providing clean and affordable fuel briquettes to households and institutions, Kawi is also spearheading additional innovative initiatives. These include working with other parties to design complementary cook-stoves for institutional customers, opening discussions with municipal authorities on licensing Kawi to harvest materials from municipal solid waste (MSW) sites and contract farming for cassava starch.

As of 2020 – 2021, the two major projects at the core of our strategy were scaling up our production and distribution of fuel briquettes to cover the wider Nairobi-Kiambu-Machakos and Kajiado region and commissioning a new plant in the Mombasa region.

In 2023, Kawi diversified into solar energy harvesting, storage and transmission, setting up her first solar powered swarm grid in Butula subcounty, Busia (Kenya) – a 64 kwp plant otherwise known as the Bulwani/Imanga Substation.

Currently, Kawi Industries’ product offerings in the solar business unit are Swarm Grids, Home Solar Systems/Stand-alone units, Mini-Grids, and Grid-Tied Systems.
